Vice President Kashim Shettima has assured Nigerians that President Bola Tinubu remains fully committed to restoring peace and stability across the country, despite ongoing security challenges.
Speaking at the National Mosque on Friday, 5 June 2026, after a special Jummat prayer to celebrate Democracy Day, Shettima urged citizens to pray fervently for national unity and security.
"I want to assure Nigerians of President Bola Tinubu’s unwavering commitment towards restoring peace and stability in the nation.
"No matter how long the night is, it must give way to the light of dawn. Stormy as the weather may be, it will not rain forever. The government remains irrevocably committed to restoring peace and stability in the nation," he said.
The Vice President said efforts were ongoing to secure the safe return of citizens and children held by bandits and terrorists.

He also acknowledged the sacrifices of past heroes who, he said, safeguarded the democracy Nigerians enjoy today.
Shettima asserted that the bonds uniting Nigerians outweighed their differences, and called on the public to pray for one another as well as for the nation.
Earlier, the Imam of the National Mosque, Haroun Eze, urged Nigerians to remain patriotic and steadfast.
Eze called on leaders at all levels to take decisive action on security, describing peace as essential for development and citizens’ wellbeing.
The Democracy Day prayer service was attended by several dignitaries, including Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Minister of Information Mohammed Idris, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Gboyega Oyetola, and former Kano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.
