'My Sons Will Not Succeed Me' – Pastor Kumuyi

Pastor William Kumuyi, founder and General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has ruled out the possibility of his sons taking over leadership of the church.

Speaking on church succession, the cleric said Deeper Life does not belong to him or his family, but to Jesus Christ.

Kumuyi stressed that he has no authority to transfer leadership to his biological children.

He argued that treating the ministry as a personal or family possession would contradict its founding purpose.

The 83-year-old pastor has led Deeper Life since founding the church in 1973.

It has grown into one of Nigeria’s largest Pentecostal denominations, with millions of members worldwide.

Discussions about succession have resurfaced in several Nigerian churches in recent years, with some congregations handing leadership to founders’ relatives.

He said the church’s leadership structure is guided by biblical principles and collective decision-making, not family inheritance.
