Eight people have been killed and seventeen others injured after a commercial bus ploughed into a tricycle on the Funtua–Katsina highway in Katsina State, Nigeria, on Sunday afternoon.
The collision occurred at approximately 1:32 pm near Layin Kukah in the Bakori Local Government Area (LGA), according to a statement issued by the Katsina State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The crash involved a commercial Toyota Hiace bus, registered 14B 92 TR, and an unregistered Bajaj tricycle.
In total, twenty five people were caught up in the incident, involving sixteen adult men, four adult women, two boys and three girls.
Of the eight who lost their lives, four were children, three girls and one boy, alongside two men and two women.

The remaining seventeen survivors were hospitalised with fractures and deep lacerations and were taken to Bakori Comprehensive Hospital for urgent medical attention.
FRSC officials have identified wrongful overtaking as the likely cause of the disaster.
The identities of both drivers had not yet been confirmed at the time of reporting.
DRC Shamsudeen Babajo, Public Education Officer for the Katsina FRSC Command, urged all road users to avoid reckless overtaking and to comply with traffic regulations.
"These are entirely avoidable tragedies," the statement implied, calling on motorists to exercise greater care on Nigerian highways.
