NYSC Mourns Corps Member Who Died in Abuja Military Operation


The management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has mourned the death of a serving corps member, Abdulsamad Jamiu, who lost his life during a military operation near his residence in Abuja.

In a statement on Monday, NYSC said Jamiu died in the early hours of Sunday, April 26, 2026, in the vicinity of Shagari Estate, Dei-Dei, Abuja.

Until his death, the corps member was serving at Government Junior Secondary School, Bakin Ado, in Nasarawa State, where he was posted as part of his national service.

The NYSC described the incident as deeply distressing, adding that it was engaging relevant security agencies to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

While grieving with the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased, the scheme reiterated its commitment to the safety and welfare of corps members and staff nationwide.

It said efforts would continue to be strengthened in collaboration with security and intelligence agencies to reduce risks and enhance protection across the country.

The NYSC also maintained it stands in solidarity with the bereaved family during the difficult period and prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul.
