Jumma’at Imams Call for Prayers as Security, Governance ‘Fail Nigerians’

The Association of Jumma’at Mosque Imams in Nigeria has said Nigeria’s security architecture and other governance systems have failed, calling for sustained prayers to restore peace and stability across the country.

RoundReports understands that the group made the call on Friday during a special prayer session for national peace and unity held at the Jos Central Mosque.

The prayer gathering attracted Jumma’at Mosque imams and other religious leaders from different parts of the state.

Speaking at the event, the association’s assistant secretary, Dr Yusuf Abdullahi Yusuf, said the country could not overcome its challenges unless religious leaders rose to their responsibility of guiding society through prayer and moral leadership.

Yusuf said the prayer session was organised to remind imams of the need to consistently preach peace, unity, truthfulness and the importance of security to social stability.

As humans, our technology has failed. Our efforts as individuals have failed.

We live in a country with a security architecture, but it has failed. Nigeria is facing serious challenges including economic hardship, ethno-religious violence, banditry, kidnapping and other forms of insecurity,” he said.

He said the association believed prayer remained a vital tool in addressing the country’s difficulties, noting that divine guidance could help security agencies and political leaders take the right decisions.

We have the Almighty who is willing to answer our prayers and change our condition.

With prayer, Allah will guide our security personnel to do what is required and help leaders choose the right path,” Yusuf said.

He added that the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) emphasise unity, peace and security, urging imams to make regular prayers for national peace and cohesion a feature of weekly congregational worship.

According to him, sustained commitment by religious leaders to preaching peace and moral responsibility could help steer the country towards stability and social harmony.
