EFCC Warns Against Unauthorised Use of Name, Logo in Online Skits

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has cautioned individuals and content creators against the unauthorised use of its name, logo and identity in skits and other media content.

In a statement on Saturday, the commission said it had observed a growing trend in which its name, insignia and likeness were being used in comedy skits and online productions without approval.

According to the EFCC, many of such contents misrepresent its values and standard operating procedures, creating a misleading impression of the agency’s work and mandate.

The Commission stressed that it has not authorised the use of its identity in any skits or creative productions and does not endorse, sponsor or approve any comedy, drama or online content that features its name, logo or other identifying elements without prior written consent.

It advised members of the public and content creators to desist from using EFCC symbols, uniforms or any representation associated with the agency for promotional or entertainment purposes without official authorisation.

The EFCC warned that violations of this directive would attract appropriate legal action, urging compliance to avoid sanctions.

EFCC said:

"It has come to the attention of the Economic Financial Crime Commission that some individuals and content creators are using the name, logo, and likeness of  EFCC in skits and other media content.

"Many of these skits misrepresent our values and standard operation procedures.

"We wish to inform the general public that the EFCC has not authorized any such use.

"The EFCC does not endorse, sponsor, or approve any comedy, drama, or online content that uses our identity without written consent.

"Therefore, the public is thereby advised to cease and desist from using our name, logo, uniforms, or any identifying elements in skits or promotional content without prior written approval.

"Be warned, all who violates these instructions shall be prosecuted."
