The federal government has earmarked N6.14 billion for President Bola Tinubu’s foreign trips in the proposed 2026 appropriation bill, according to budget documents submitted to the National Assembly.
An additional N873.88 million has been allocated for local travel, taking the president’s total travel provision to N7.01 billion for the year.
The proposal also sets aside N1.73 billion for Vice-President Kashim Shettima’s travel and transport.
Of this sum, N417.48 million is designated for domestic travel, while N1.31 billion is reserved for international trips.
The allocations come amid earlier efforts by the Tinubu administration to curb travel costs.
In 2024, the president ordered a 60 per cent reduction in the number of officials accompanying him on both local and foreign trips, citing the need to rein in public spending.
Budget figures show that in the 2024 fiscal year, Tinubu and Shettima planned to spend a combined N8 billion on domestic and international travel.
President Tinubu presented the N58.18 trillion 2026 federal budget to the National Assembly on December 19, 2025, after it received approval from the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
Lawmakers are expected to scrutinise the spending proposals in the coming weeks as part of the budget review process.
