Senator Seriake Dickson, who represents Bayelsa West, has dismissed reports claiming he has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speculation earlier in the week suggested that the former Bayelsa governor had joined the ADC, which has been positioned as an opposition coalition platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.
However, in a statement issued on Friday, Dickson’s aide, Ajiri Daniels, described the reports as false and misleading, insisting that the senator remains a committed member and key leader of the PDP.
Daniels explained that Dickson had recently stepped back from active political engagements to mourn the death of Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, a former deputy governor of Bayelsa State.
During this period, he said, the senator has been receiving condolence visits from friends, political leaders, allies and well-wishers from across the country, cutting across party affiliations and professions.
According to the statement, Dickson is closely monitoring political developments nationwide and will consult widely with friends and political allies before taking any future political decisions, which would be formally announced if and when they occur.
“But in the meantime, he remains a key leader in the PDP, hoping that the party will get its act right in view of its legacy contribution to Nigerian politics,” Daniels said.
He urged Nigerians, party supporters and the general public to disregard the defection claims, describing them as fake news designed to misinform.
