Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State on Tuesday formally endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid for the 2027 general election.
The endorsement was reached at a special stakeholders’ meeting convened by Governor Douye Diri at the Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall in Yenagoa.
It was said that the motion backing the President was moved by the Senator representing Bayelsa Central, Dr Konbowei Benson, and seconded by a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly and ex-deputy governor, Peremobowei Ebebi.
The meeting drew a wide cross-section of the party’s leadership, including the chairman of the APC caretaker committee in the state, Dr Dennis Otiotio; and the Senator representing Bayelsa East, Chief Benson Agadaga.
Others were the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri; the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Dr Sam Ogbuku; and the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority, Prince Ebitimi Amgbare.
Also present was the South-South ex-officio member of the APC National Working Committee, Hon. Godbless Diriware.
It was the first expanded APC stakeholders’ meeting convened by Governor Diri since he joined the party and assumed its leadership in Bayelsa State in October 2025.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Diri said the party had resolved to work collectively to secure a second term for President Tinubu.
He urged members to embrace unity, humility and reconciliation, and to avoid divisive politics in the interest of stability and development in the state.
The governor also called for internal discipline, advising party members with political ambitions to exercise restraint ahead of the next election cycle.
“This is one big family of the APC. I appreciate the old members of the party for the reception given to me and others who crossed over. Political parties are vehicles for development. Let us truly be progressives. Whatever positions you intend to contest for, please put them on hold for now. What should be uppermost is ensuring that President Tinubu returns for a second term,” he said.
In a brief remark, Senator Lokpobiri said the meeting indicted a new phase of cohesion within the Bayelsa APC, noting that the party now shared a clear objective of winning all elective offices in 2027.
The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Abraham Ingobere, former APC governorship candidate David Lyon, and Prince Amgbare praised the governor’s inclusive leadership style, describing it as a factor capable of strengthening the party’s prospects.
Dr Otiotio, the caretaker committee chairman, said the meeting was aimed at unifying the party’s leadership, which he noted had been fragmented for more than a decade.
He added that members were encouraged to participate fully in the party’s electronic membership registration exercise to ensure an accurate and credible database of supporters.
The meeting also observed a minute’s silence in honour of former Senator representing Bayelsa West in the 5th National Assembly, John Brambaifa, who died on Saturday, January 3, 2026, in Abuja.
