President Bola Tinubu has vowed to deploy all available military and law enforcement resources to combat threats and safeguard the lives of Nigerians.
Speaking through Vice President Kashim Shettima at the opening of the 2025 Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference in Ojuelegba, Lagos, Tinubu announced a notable boost to the Nigerian military’s operational capacity, including the acquisition of Mine-Resistant Ambush-Protected (MRAP) vehicles, a new fleet of armoured assets, and the refurbishment of over 100 Armoured Fighting Vehicles.
“There is no nation that can achieve greatness without security. This government remains resolute in mobilising all military and law enforcement assets to eliminate security threats and protect the lives and property of all Nigerians,” the President declared at Nebo Hall, Abalti Barracks.
The President described security as a cornerstone of his Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing the importance of modernising the Armed Forces through enhanced training, cutting-edge equipment, and improved operational readiness.
He cited recent strides, including the induction of helicopters into Nigerian Army Aviation and the training of pilots, as part of broader efforts to strengthen battlefield effectiveness.
“These efforts reflect our clear commitment to strengthening the Nigerian Army’s operational readiness,” he said.
Tinubu also revealed that the Federal Government is intensifying collaboration with international partners to foster indigenous defence production and innovation, aiming for long-term self-reliance in security.
Commending the Nigerian Army’s performance in ongoing operations, the President stated that reports from various theatres indicate improved outcomes driven by professionalism, courage, and inter-agency cooperation.
He praised the military’s apolitical stance and civil-military initiatives, stressing the need to win hearts and support development at the grassroots.
Paying tribute to fallen soldiers, Tinubu assured that their sacrifices would not be forgotten, pledging continued support for their families and improved welfare for serving personnel.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who also addressed the gathering, lauded the Army’s role in maintaining peace and strengthening civil-military relations in the state.
Sanwo-Olu reiterated Lagos State’s commitment to supporting the military’s constitutional duties.
Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa, echoed the President’s message, urging officers to remain united and loyal.
Musa assured that the Ministry would continue to provide strategic direction and act decisively to address security challenges.
Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, in his welcome address, unveiled new welfare packages aimed at boosting morale and operational efficiency.
He credited President Tinubu for consistently meeting the Army’s operational needs since taking office.
