Rivers Assembly Backs Tinubu for Second Term, Passes Unanimous Vote of Confidence

The Rivers State House of Assembly has passed a unanimous vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu and called on him to seek re-election in 2027, citing what it described as his “purposeful leadership” and sustained investments in the state.

The resolution was adopted on Wednesday after a motion moved by the House Leader, Hon Major Jack, and co-sponsored by 25 other lawmakers.

Members praised the President for what they viewed as huge contributions to the state’s development, including key federal infrastructure projects such as the East–West Road and the Bonny–Bodo Road.

Lawmakers also cited Tinubu’s appointments of Rivers indigenes to strategic national positions, which they said had strengthened the state’s representation in federal governance.

Speaker Rt Hon Martin Chike Amaewhule told members that the President had demonstrated “a compassionate commitment to Nigeria’s renewal,” adding that Rivers State had felt the impact of his administration more keenly in recent months.

The Speaker disclosed that recent economic policies had boosted federal allocations to states and local governments, helping them meet recurring obligations including salary payments.

He recounted the visit of prominent Rivers leaders to the President earlier this year and said Tinubu had fulfilled his promises, including the appointment of 39 Rivers sons and daughters into national roles.

Amaewhule said the Assembly would continue to align with the federal government on matters of security, urging residents to supply credible intelligence to security agencies to support ongoing operations.

When the motion was put to a voice vote, members unanimously endorsed it, resolving to:

• pass a vote of confidence in the President for his leadership;

• commend him for federal appointments and projects benefiting Rivers State;

• reaffirm the House’s support and loyalty to the President through the FCT Minister, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike;

• call on Tinubu to seek a second term in 2027; and

• mandate members to begin mobilisation and sensitisation across their constituencies for the Renewed Hope Agenda.
