Thirty-eight worshippers abducted from Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Oke Isegun in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area, have been reunited with their families, days after their rescue was reported but not publicly confirmed.
Recall that the group was taken on 18 November 2025 during a special thanksgiving service, an attack that left three people dead and another wounded by gunfire.
In a statement on Tuesday evening, Dada Sunday, Chief Press Secretary to the Ekiti Local Government Council Chairman, said the freed worshippers were formally handed over to the Council Chairman, Awelewa Olawale Gabriel, in Ilorin by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
It was said that the handover indicated the conclusion of a coordinated operation involving both federal and state security agencies.
Receiving the victims, Awelewa thanked President Bola Tinubu, Governor AbdulRazaq, the National Security Adviser, and security agencies for their swift intervention.
He also commended the medical care provided to the abductees following their release.
“We will leave no stone unturned in ensuring the lives and property of our people are protected through a robust security network,” Awelewa said, pledging continued prioritisation of security across all 10 wards of the LGA.
The worshippers arrived in Eruku at around 6:30 pm on Tuesday and were welcomed by jubilant relatives and community members.
In addition, the Owa of Eruku praised the joint rescue effort, describing the return of the abductees as a relief to the entire community.
Checks revealed that Kwara’s border communities, particularly within Ekiti LGA has experienced multiple kidnappings in recent years.
