Nasarawa Police Rescue 40 Foreign Nationals From Trafficking Syndicate

The Nasarawa State Police Command has rescued 40 foreign nationals, mostly from Mali and Ivory Coast, who were allegedly lured into Nigeria by a human trafficking network with false promises of jobs in France.

It was said that the victims were intercepted before they could be transported out of the country, the police said on Saturday.

The State Commissioner of Police, Shettima Jauro, announced the development during a press briefing in Lafia.

CP Jauro said the group had been enticed with the prospect of employment opportunities in Europe and brought into Nigeria through illegal routes.

He added that they were being kept at a location in the state in preparation for onward movement to France when officers, acting on intelligence, raided the premises.

Meanwhile, the suspected ringleader of the syndicate is still on the run, and police say efforts are underway to track him and other accomplices.

Notably, no further details were provided on the victims’ conditions or the specific site of the rescue, as investigations remain ongoing.
