The Bayelsa State Government has reiterated its commitment to deepening collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to improve road safety and curb accidents across the state.
Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, ESV Moses Teibowei, gave the assurance on Monday while receiving the newly deployed Bayelsa Sector Commander, Corps Commander Abosi Prince, who paid him a courtesy visit in Yenagoa.
Teibowei said the government had placed premium on delivering modern road infrastructure built to global safety standards, adding that clear and functional road signage remained a compulsory feature of every state-backed project.
Describing the FRSC as a “valuable partner,” he praised the Corps for its sustained efforts in promoting responsible driving culture and reducing crashes on Bayelsa roads.
He said the Ministry was open to expanded cooperation through joint interfaces, road audits and technical advisory sessions involving engineers working on ongoing and completed road projects.
He acknowledged the Corps’ statutory role in signage production and assured that the state would continue to collaborate closely to ensure signs are deployed at strategic points.
Citing ongoing developments, Teibowei said Governor Douye Diri was “setting a benchmark for future administrations” with notable schemes such as the Yenagoa–Oporoma Road, Glory Drive Phase 3, Agbura–Oxbow Lake Road, dual carriageways within the New Yenagoa City GRA, and the East–West–Kalama Road.
According to him, the repairs on failed sections of existing roads were underway.
Earlier, Corps Commander Abosi Prince said his visit was aimed at renewing the FRSC’s partnership with the Ministry.
He stated that the Corps is mandated to provide safety recommendations before, during and after road construction, and to produce and install signage for motorists.
He also called for the construction of a roundabout at the intersection linking Glory Drive Phases 2 and 3 along the Airport Road to ease traffic flow and reduce risk in the area.
