Bayelsa Govt Denies Order to Shut Swali Market During Monarch’s Burial

The Bayelsa State Government has dismissed claims circulating on local radio that Swali Market would be closed on Friday to allow traditional rites for the late Attissa Monarch, HRM King Godwin Gurosi Igodo.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, the government said it had not approved any shutdown of the busy Yenagoa market and urged traders to continue their activities without fear.

The government also cautioned youths and members of the Attissa Clan against obstructing residents or traders during the burial procession, which is expected to draw attention in the state capital.

To maintain order around the Ikoli Bridge, authorities are deploying security personnel to prevent street trading along the route and ensure free movement of traffic.

The statement called for full cooperation from residents and all groups involved as the burial activities continue.
