Lagos to Stage 96-Hour DJ Marathon Festival for Detty December

Lagos State will close out the year with a 96-hour DJ Marathon World Festival, an event organisers say is designed to showcase the city’s growing status as a global party destination during the famed Detty December season.

In a statement issued on Sunday, media personality and event coordinator Buchi Henry said preparations are under way for at least 100 DJs to perform non-stop across four days, from 29 December 2025 to 2 January 2026.

Henry said the concept was inspired by the international attention Lagos attracts each December, revealing that visitors from countries such as Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, France and Portugal had recently enquired about the city’s end-of-year festivities.

He said diasporans and foreign tourists had shown particular interest in experiencing Lagos’ nightlife, prompting the team to design a festival that captures the city’s high-energy culture.

According to Henry, Lagos’ reputation as Nigeria’s party capital made a DJ-centred festival a natural choice.

He added that the decision to pursue a world record developed after reviewing past marathon attempts, including those linked to DJ Obi and Masked Queen Bella, who have each completed lengthy individual sets.

“Our new aim is a 96-hour non-stop festival featuring at least 100 DJs,” he said, adding that the event was timed to coincide with New Year celebrations to boost global appeal.

The showcase will run across three beach venues; Wave Beach, Kyma Beach, and Athena Beach with a combination of free and ticketed segments.

Alongside the marathon itself, the festival will feature food, fashion, fitness activities, yoga, Zumba sessions and a mix of gospel, R&B, rap and hip-hop performances.

Henry acknowledged the complexity of the logistics but said the ambition was to deliver Africa’s largest party festival, streamed live to 100 countries.

Veteran DJs including DJ Jimmy Jatt, DJ Neptune, DJ Humility and DJ Bombastic are expected to perform, with more than 50 performance slots reserved for emerging and female DJs, including Masked Queen Bella.

Nigeria Moves Away from Borrowing

The federal government has unveiled a great shift in Nigeria’s fiscal strategy, moving away from heavy reliance on borrowing towards the mobilisation of mass domestic savings as a sustainable response to the nation’s rising debt burden. Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, disclosed the new approach during an interactive session on the 2026–2028 Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP), hosted by the Senate Committee on Finance at the National Assembly. Edun said the policy pivot was essential in light of persistent revenue shortfalls, mounting fiscal pressures, and the need to strengthen domestic capital formation without further swelling public debt. According to the minister, Nigeria’s total public debt has soared to around N152 trillion, up from approximately N70 trillion in 2023, but a large portion of the increase did not stem from new borrowing. He explained that N30 trillion arose from the formal recognition an...
