The legal team representing prominent Nollywood actor Mr Taiwo Arimoro, also known as Taye Arimoro, has issued a formal demand for an immediate retraction and public apology from three major film industry bodies.
RoundReports reports that the industry bodies include the Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN), the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), and the Association of Movie Producers (AMP).
The demand, conveyed in a letter signed by Inibehe Effiong Chambers, Lagos and Uyo, comes in response to a joint statement issued by the guilds on 27 November 2025, which purported to impose disciplinary sanctions on Arimoro over an on-set incident during the production of the movie Pieces of Love.
According to the legal letter, the guilds’ decision is “procedurally improper, legally indefensible, and constitutionally void,” citing multiple grounds, including a failure to correctly identify Mr. Arimoro, repeatedly misnaming him as “Taiye Ayimoro,” and a lack of jurisdiction, as the actor is not a member of any of the three bodies.
The letter further alleges that the DGN misrepresented the purpose of its fact-finding committee, which Arimoro attended under the understanding that it was not a disciplinary panel.
The lawyers noted that any subsequent sanctions resulting from this engagement are “deceptive” and “wholly unconscionable.”
In addition to procedural errors, the legal team accused the guilds of violating Arimoro’s constitutional rights, including the right to fair hearing and freedom of association, and of interfering unlawfully with his career.
Moreso, the letter warns that continued refusal to retract the sanctions could prompt legal action seeking damages of up to N1 billion.
The legal team therefore demanded the withdrawal of the sanctions and a written apology to Arimoro, to be published through the same channels as the original statement, within 24 hours of receipt.
Representatives of the DGN, AGN, and AMP have yet to respond to the demands as of press time.
