GehGeh: 'Men Are Doing Women a Favour by Marrying Them'

Popular social media personality Gehgeh has ignited controversy following remarks on marriage customs during the latest episode of the Honest Bunch podcast.

Discussing proposal practices, Gehgeh insisted that African men are "not supposed to kneel" when proposing, describing the gesture as unAfrican and suggesting men are "doing women a favour" by choosing to marry.

When podcast hosts countered, citing the commitments women make through marriage, child-rearing, and managing households, Gehgeh doubled down, asserting that men "don’t need marriage for anything."

He added that, in his view, a woman is only necessary to have children, which he claimed could occur outside marriage.

The comments have triggered a wave of reactions on social media, with critics condemning his stance as dismissive and outdated, while some supporters defended it as reflecting a particular cultural perspective.
