Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has commended President Bola Tinubu for his sustained support for the Ijaw nation and Bayelsa State, describing him as "a steadfast friend" of the people.
Speaking at his formal reception into the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa, Diri praised the President’s "commitment to fairness, infrastructure, and service delivery," pledging to work closely with the federal government to advance development in the state.
The governor disclosed several federal interventions he said reflect Tinubu’s goodwill towards Bayelsa, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, the Nembe-Brass Road project, and the Agge Deep Seaport, all of which, he noted, hold great potential for economic expansion and job creation.
"President Tinubu has shown himself a steadfast supporter of the Ijaw people and a friend to Bayelsa State. Under his leadership, the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road is becoming a reality, and our Nembe-Brass Road has received fresh federal attention," he said.
He also recalled that the President approved a tax waiver for the state’s gas turbine imports, describing it as another gesture that removed barriers to development.
Diri reiterated his commitment to President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, saying Bayelsa’s partnership with the federal government would remain "constructive and focused on results."
Calling for unity among Bayelsans regardless of political affiliation, the governor said the state was too small and too interconnected to be divided by partisan rivalry.
"Our political choices may differ, but our shared heritage and future bind us more strongly than any political party.
"Let us remember that we are Bayelsans first. Our shared identity, history and destiny are far more important than party labels. Poverty, deprivation and underdevelopment do not discriminate by party; they affect everyone.
"Bayelsa is too small and too close‑knit to be divided by partisan bitterness. Our strength comes from unity. We must not allow political differences to fracture families, communities and institutions that we all rely on.
"Since taking office my guiding principle has been simple: consult widely, act in the public interest, and deliver tangible results. That principle informed this current decision and will continue to guide our Assured Prosperity Administration," he said.
