FCT Police Deny Role in Sowore’s Reported Re-Arrest

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has distanced itself from the reported re-arrest of human rights activist and publisher, Omoyele Sowore, shortly after he was granted bail by a magistrate court in Abuja on Friday.

Magistrate Abubakar Umar Sai’I’d of the Kuje Magistrate Court had earlier granted bail in the sum of N500,000 each to Sowore, Aloy Ejimakor, a former counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, and several protesters arrested during the #FreeNnamdiKanu demonstration.

However, when contacted, the spokesperson for the FCT Command, SP Josephine Adeh, denied the command’s involvement in the development, according to TVC News.

Adeh clarified that the matter was being handled by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Headquarters, not the FCT Command.

Details surrounding Sowore’s reported re-arrest remain sketchy as of the time of filing this report.

Sowore was allegedly apprehended by police operatives at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The incident was brought to public attention by human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong, who took to X (formerly Twitter) to condemn the arrest, accusing the police and the Tinubu administration of undermining the sanctity of the judiciary.
