President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has written to the Senate, requesting the confirmation of Professor Joash Amupitan as the next Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The letter was read on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary, alongside other presidential communications seeking legislative approval for key appointments.
In the letter, Tinubu stated that the nomination complies with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, which mandates Senate confirmation for such appointments.
According to reports by the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), the request has been forwarded to the entire Senate for consideration.
