BREAKING: Three Kaduna PDP Lawmakers Defect to APC

Three members of the Kaduna State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the House of Representatives have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), further weakening the opposition in the state.

The lawmakers, Abdulkarim Ahmed (Kaduna South), Aliyu Mustapha (Ikara/Kubau), and Sadiq Ango-Abdullahi (Sabon Gari), announced their defection on Tuesday through separate letters read by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas during plenary.

They attributed their decision to the protracted internal crisis within the PDP and a desire to align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Ahmed, in his resignation letter to the PDP Chairman in Makera Ward, Kaduna South, revealed persistent factionalism had hindered his ability to effectively represent his constituency.

"The constant internal conflicts and factionalism within the PDP, which have climaxed into an elongated party crisis, are undesirably impacting my ability to effectively represent my constituency and accomplish my obligations optimally.

"In view of the enduring situation and after a wide consultation with my constituents, key stakeholders and my political allies, I have come to the tough but needed decision to resign my membership of the PDP.

"This decision is driven by my commitment to continue serving my good people of Kaduna South Federal Constituency, beyond partisan lines, ensuring that all my constituents benefit from purposeful, inclusive, and effective representation.

"I sincerely thank the PDP for the privilege and opportunity to serve under its platform.

"The support, trust, and experiences I have gained during my time with the party were priceless, and I am very grateful to the leadership and members at all levels.

"While thanking you for your support, please accept the assurances of my esteemed regards," he said.
