Suspects Flee, Abandon Pistol as Bayelsa Police Disrupt Drug Session

Suspected drug users abandoned a locally made pistol and fled on Saturday after police operatives stumbled upon them allegedly taking illicit substances in Tombia, Bayelsa State.

Operatives attached to Ekeki Divisional Headquarters discloed on Monday how they were on routine patrol along Osiri Road at around 2 pm when they observed a group of youths engaged in the activity.

"On 4th July 2026, at about 1400 hours, operatives attached to Ekeki Divisional Headquarters, while on routine patrol along Osiri Road, Tombia, observed a group of youths allegedly taking illicit drugs," Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Musa Mohammed, Anipr, foosi said.

The suspects scattered on sighting the officers, leaving the firearm behind.

"On sighting the police operatives, the suspects fled the scene, abandoning one locally made pistol, which was subsequently recovered," Mohammed added.

According to the PPRO, Investigation has commenced and efforts to track down the fleeing suspects are ongoing. 

The Command urged members of the public to provide credible information to assist in combating crime across the state.
