PFIPC Scandal: Gbajabiamila Threatens N10bn Defamation Suit Against Adeyemi

PFIPC Scandal: Gbajabiamila Threatens N10bn Defamation Suit Against Adeyemi

President Bola Tinubu's Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila has threatened a ten billion naira defamation lawsuit against Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi.

Gbajabiamila is suing Adeyemi who describes himself as the convener of the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) over allegations of murder and bribery made at a public press conference.

In a letter signed by his lawyer, Kemi Pinheiro SAN, Gbajabiamila demanded that Adeyemi immediately pull down all videos containing the alleged defamatory claims.

He asked him to publish a full retraction and apology in at least five national newspapers and across every social media platform where the 26 June press conference was circulated.

Pinheiro described the allegations as "false, malicious, reckless and entirely without factual foundation," adding that they were designed to portray Gbajabiamila as "corrupt, morally bankrupt, and a murderer.

The lawyer stressed that Gbajabiamila and Adeyemi had never met or had any form of interaction, making the claims entirely baseless.

"It is even more disturbing to our client that you resorted to defaming him through your press statements after a criminal charge had been filed against you," the letter stated.

Adeyemi was given 72 hours to comply, with Pinheiro warning that failure to do so would leave the Chief of Staff no choice but to commence legal proceedings without further notice.

The lawsuit threat is the latest development in a deepening dispute over the PFIPC.

Earlier, the Presidency distanced itself from the body in June, with Gbajabiamila stating on 11 June that neither his office nor the Presidency had appointed Adeyemi to any position.

Adeyemi hit back at his press conference, questioning how an agency the government claims does not exist appeared in the 2026 budget.

He also alleged that Gbajabiamila received four hundred million naira through a proxy and demanded a further two hundred million naira to facilitate his appointment.

In addition, he called for an investigation into the death of intermediary Babatunde Tanimola and claimed attempts had been made on his life.

Gbajabiamila has dismissed all the allegations as false and defamatory.
