Armed men abducted seven students in an early morning raid on the outskirts of Kaura Namoda in Zamfara State, police have confirmed.
Police said one student later escaped and was reunited with authorities after the attack that took place at about 4:00 am on Wednesday, 4 June 2026.
Assailants stormed student residences in the Low-Cost Area on the edge of Kaura Namoda Local Government Area (LGA) and took the victims to an unknown location before fleeing.
Zamfara State Police Command said joint tactical police teams and military personnel attached to Operation Fansar Yamma were deployed to the area after reports of the raid.

Unfortunately, police said the bandits had left before security forces arrived.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Yazid Abubakar disclosed one of the abducted students managed to escape captivity and has since been handed over to the authorities.
Abubakar added that search-and-rescue operations are ongoing to secure the release of the remaining six students and to apprehend those responsible.
"The Command is working with other security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of the victims," Abubakar said.
He urged residents to remain calm and provide credible information that could assist the operation.
