NPF Concludes AI Policing Workshop in Abuja

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has concluded a two-day workshop on artificial intelligence in law enforcement, with senior officers and international partners agreeing that AI is already changing how policing is done.

NPF said the Second AI-POL Leadership Dialogue on Advancing Innovation, Governance and the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence in Law Enforcement ended on Wednesday, 3 June 2026, at Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Law enforcement leaders, technology experts and international partners attended.

Discussions focused on real-world uses of AI in security operations, the risks of adopting new technology, and lessons from other countries that could guide Nigeria’s approach.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu said the conversations showed AI was no longer a future issue for policing.

"Artificial intelligence is no longer something to prepare for in the distant future. It is already reshaping how security agencies operate around the world," he said.

Disu thanked participants and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to working with partners on responsible AI use.

A key part of the workshop was a presentation on the outcomes of the 5th Global Meeting for AI and Law Enforcement.

Nigeria was recognised there as a priority partner for the African AI Policing Pilot programme.

Organisers urged officers to take lessons from the workshop back to their commands and put them into practice, rather than leaving them in the conference room.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Anthony Okon Placid, Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), said the Force was grateful to everyone who supported the workshop.

Placid added that the aim was to build safer communities and a police service accountable to citizens.
