Nollywood Mourns Alexx Ekubo at Lagos Service of Songs


Family, friends and Nollywood stars filled Monarch Event Centre in Lekki on Wednesday night for a service of songs honouring late actor Alexx Ekubo.

Recall that the actor died on 11 May 2026 after a long battle with kidney cancer. 

The tribute drew a large crowd of mourners who paid tribute to his life and work.

Pastors Ituah Ighodalo and Jerry Eze led prayers and exhortations. 

Gospel artists Peterson Okopi, Ebuka Songs, Moses Bliss, Mercy Chinwo and Kaestrings performed during the service.

Several Nollywood figures also attended, including Funke Akindele, Kate Henshaw, Omoni Oboli, Nancy Isime, Ini Edo, Ruth Kadiri, IK Ogbonna, Stan Nze, Kunle Remi and Mike Godson.

Other guests included comedian AY Makun, broadcaster Frank Edoho, entrepreneur Cubana Chief Priest, and singers Kcee and Chike.

The Lagos service is the start of funeral rites for the actor as Ekubo family had earlier announced the programme on his official Instagram page and asked fans to keep them in prayer.

Activities move to Abia State next. A wake is set for 17 June, with burial on 18 June in Ujari Village, his hometown.
