Ghanaian Lawyer Dies after Collapsing while Celebrating World Cup Win in Kumasi

A 26-year-old lawyer collapsed and died after Ghana’s opening FIFA World Cup victory.

Sara Araba Tettey, a private legal practitioner recently called to Bar, suffered a suspected cardiac arrest on Wednesday, 17 June 2026.

Tettey was watching the match with friends at Standard Hostel, a private student residence in Bomso near Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Kumasi, according to MyJoyOnline. 

Witnesses said celebrations erupted after the Black Stars secured the win, but she became unresponsive during the excitement.

Friends rushed her to KNUST Hospital where doctors administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation for about 45 minutes. 

Unfortunately, the lawyer was later pronounced dead and her body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary.

Reports said that an autopsy will be conducted to further determine the cause of her death.
