Atiku’s Aide Urges DSS to Quiz Sunday Igboho Over Oyo School Abductions

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s media aide, Paul Ibe has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to invite Yoruba Nation agitator Sunday Igboho to disclose the names of those he claims are behind the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire, Oyo State.

Ibe made the call in a post on X on Thursday, saying every option must be explored to secure the release of the victims.

Igboho, while meeting members of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, said he knows politicians responsible for the kidnappings.

He warned he would name them publicly if the abductions do not stop.

"Since Sunday Igboho claims to know those behind the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire, Oyo State, I think that the State Security Service and other security agencies should invite him to release those names to them.

"Every option should be on the table to fast track the safe release of the school children and teachers," Ibe said.

The aide also criticised the Bola Tinubu administration over its response to a separate abduction in Borno State last month.

He said more than 50 schoolchildren were taken in Mussa on 15 May 2026, but the government had kept silent.

"Why is Tinubu and his government mute over the Borno abduction? Are those school children not Nigerians? When will the Commander-in-Chief and Consoler-in-Chief send a delegation to Mussa like it did in the case of Oriire?" he asked.

Ibe further questioned why Borno and other vulnerable states had not received forest guards, adding that the government should not wait for tragedies before acting on insecurity.

The DSS and police are yet to comment on Ibe’s request or Igboho’s claims.

Efforts to secure the release of the Oriire victims are ongoing, according to Oyo State officials.
