Nigeria’s minister-designate for power, Olasunkanmi Tegbe, has denied reports that he promised to fix the country’s electricity grid within three months, calling the claims false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Friday through his spokesperson, Adeola Adelabu, Tegbe said he made no such commitment during his Senate screening on 6 May 2026.
The statement added that timelines for power sector reforms were still being developed and would depend on technical assessments and consultations with stakeholders.
Tegbe's clarification came after several outlets reported that he had pledged to resolve Nigeria’s grid challenges within 90 days.
According to the statement, Tegbe told lawmakers that efforts to stabilise the national grid would begin within his first 100 days in office.

He added that wider structural reforms would take longer to implement.
"Our attention has been drawn to inaccurate media reports alleging that the Honourable Minister-designate, Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, promised to fix Nigeria’s power grid within three months.
"This claim is a clear misrepresentation of his remarks. At his Senate screening on May 6, 2026, Mr Tegbe made no such commitment.
"My promise to this chamber is that Nigerians will see visible improvement in the sector," he said.
