Osimhen Double Fires Galatasaray to Record 26th League Title

Victor Osimhen struck twice as Galatasaray came from behind to beat Antalyaspor 4-2 and secure a record 26th Turkish Super Lig title at RAMS Park on Saturday night.

The victory sealed a fourth consecutive league crown for the Istanbul club, matching their run between 1996 and 2000.

Though the celebrations were delayed by a tense contest that twice threatened to spoil the party.

Antalyaspor stunned the home crowd just before half-time when Soner Dikmen fired the visitors ahead, but the nerves deepened after the break.

Mario Lemina came off the bench to level in the 56th minute, only for Dikmen to score again six minutes later and restore the visitors’ lead.

Osimhen then turned the game by winning and converting a penalty in the 66th minute to make it 2-2, before drilling home the winner in the 88th minute to complete the turnaround.

Substitute Kaan Ayhan added a fourth deep into stoppage time.

The goals extended Osimhen’s fine run to a goal or assist in each of his last 11 league appearances.

His honours now include the FIFA U-17 World Cup, the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations, the Serie A title, and last season’s Turkish league and cup double.

Galatasaray went into the match four points clear of Fenerbahce and needed only a positive result to secure the trophy.

Manager Okan Buruk had cancelled a planned holiday after a shock defeat to Samsunspor the previous week, with reports suggesting the squad were promised a €5m bonus for winning the title at home.

Celebrations began immediately after the final whistle and spread across the city.

Last season’s festivities saw supporters flood the Yenikapı Rally Area and follow the team across the Bosphorus by boat.
