The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested two men, aged 83 and 78, in separate operations in Abia and Ekiti states over alleged possession of banned substances.
NDLEA disclosed the arrests were part of ongoing nationwide efforts to address illegal drug activities.
The first suspect, John Ofiel, 83, was arrested on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, during an operation at Samek by Powerline in Aba, Abia State.
According to NDLEA officers, 700 grams of a banned substance, packaged in small quantities, were recovered during the arrest that followed intelligence reports.

Ofiel reportedly told officers he previously worked as a shoemaker before his involvement in the case.
In a separate operation, Samuel Ogunjobi, 78, was arrested on Thursday, 30 April at his residence on Owode Street, Ilupeju-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The agency said 350 grams of the same banned substance were recovered from him.
NDLEA stated that both suspects are in custody while investigations continue.
