Kodak Black Arrested in Florida on MDMA Trafficking Charge

United States (US) rapper Kodak Black has been arrested in Florida and charged with trafficking 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA).

The 28-year-old musician, whose real name is Bill Kapri, was booked into Orange County Jail on Wednesday.

Black entered a written plea of not guilty on Thursday and requested a jury trial.

He also waived his right to appear in person at a future arraignment hearing and his bond was set at $75,000 (£55,000).

The arrest follows an incident in November when officers in Orlando responded to reports of gunfire from residents.

Police said they found a group standing near parked luxury SUVs, including Kapri.

According to the police report, an officer noticed a white substance on a $100 bill inside a Lamborghini.

The bill smelt of cannabis, giving officers probable cause to search the vehicle.

During the search, officers said they found a pink bag containing a plastic bag of MDMA, also known as ecstasy, along with $37,000 in cash and several documents bearing Kapri’s name.

Investigators said the bag matched one seen in a photo posted on Kapri’s Instagram account, and contained a distinctive lighter that also appeared in the image.

Everyone at the scene denied owning the bag, the report said, but Kapri told officers the money belonged to his business and asked for it to be returned.

It was said that this is not the rapper’s first encounter with law enforcement.

In 2023, officers in Plantation, Florida, arrested him after finding him asleep at the wheel with white powder around his mouth.

Initial tests suggested the substance was cocaine, but laboratory analysis later showed it was oxycodone, which Kapri had obtained on prescription.

The arrest was deemed a violation of his probation from an unrelated case, and he spent two months in a Miami jail as a result.

Kodak Black has sold more than 30 million singles worldwide.
