Phyna Hits Back at Moniepoint CEO over Comments on Nigerian Workforce

Reality TV star Phyna speaking in response to Moniepoint CEO’s comments on the Nigerian workforce

Reality TV star Phyna has criticised Moniepoint chief executive Tosin Eniolorunda after he suggested that many job vacancies in Nigeria remain unfilled due to a lack of "smart Nigerians."

"We are still struggling to find candidates who meet global standards," Eniolorunda said.

In a response posted online, Phyna described the comment as "really, really disrespectful" and argued that the issue is not intelligence but a system that forces people to abandon their skills in order to survive.

The country can make you drop your intelligence just to be joking around, because that’s what gets noticed.

"People end up chasing visibility and survival instead of substance," she said.

The former Big Brother Naija winner revealed she holds an engineering degree and graduated well, but has had to adapt to current realities.

"If the country gets better, I will drop all this and dust off my certificate. I still have it," she said.

She added that many qualified Nigerians are overlooked because of poor working conditions and low pay.

Phyna also questioned the value of the roles being advertised, saying that a salary of N500,000 would not cover the cost of decent accommodation in Nigeria.

She contrasted this with her experience in London, where she said people can walk 30 minutes to work and still earn a decent wage.

She further stated that social media now offers alternatives to traditional employment, pointing out that some content creators can earn more than N500,000 a month on platforms such as TikTok.

"Then this person will come and work for you?" she asked.

Phyna concluded by pointing to the daily challenges many Nigerians face, including the cost of electricity and water, and what she described as frequent harassment by police.
