Adeboye Recounts 'Rapture Scare,' Advises Couples on Marital Peace

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has urged couples not to go to bed with unresolved conflicts.

Adeboye made the call during the May 2026 Holy Ghost Service held at Redemption City.

He shared a personal experience from a trip to the United States (US) to illustrate his message.

According to the cleric, he woke up during the night and did not find his wife, Pastor Folu Adeboye, on the bed.

He said he checked multiple toilets in the room and sitting area but did not see her.

"I sat on the bed, trembling. In the cold air-conditioned room, I was sweating. I thought, ‘God, she’s gone and I’ve been left behind. What have I done?'"he said.

He explained that the fear subsided when he remembered that his wife did not travel with him on that trip.

Referencing a biblical teaching that "two shall be in one bed; one shall be taken and the other left," Adeboye said the experience reinforced his commitment to settling issues with his spouse before sleeping.

"That is why I never go to bed with unresolved issues. I don’t want God to take her and leave me behind," he said.

Adeboye, who has been married since 1967, said he and his wife ensure that no conflict is left unsettled overnight.

He urged couples to prioritise forgiveness and unity, citing the instruction that "the sun must not go down on your wrath."

The cleric concluded by sharing his nightly prayer: "Lord, if you return before morning, don’t leave us behind."
