Emefiele Trial: Court Summons Ex-FRC Boss Obazee over Naira Redesign


A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja has summoned former Financial Reporting Council executive officer Jim Obazee and Commissioner of Police, Eloho Okpoziakpo to appear as prosecution witnesses in the trial of former Central Bank governor, Godwin Emefiele.

Justice Hamza Muazu issued the subpoena on Monday, 27 April 2026 and directed both men to attend court at 9 am on Tuesday, 28 April 2026.

According to the court document, they are to "tender newspaper publication relating to Naira redesign" and remain available "from day to day until the above case is tried."

Justice Muazu said the witnesses had investigated Emefiele in connection with the charges and should appear to give explanations on the publications.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting Emefiele on an amended 20-count charge. 

The charges cover criminal breach of trust, forgery, abuse of office and conspiracy to obtain by false pretence involving $6.23m.
