Burnley Confirms Scott Parker Departure after Premier League Relegation

Burnley Football Club has confirmed that Scott Parker has left his role as Head Coach with immediate effect following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

The club’s relegation was confirmed last week after a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Burnley won four of 34 Premier League matches this season and collected one point from their last eight games.

In a statement released by the club, Burnley said Parker’s departure was “by mutual consent” after discussions between Parker and the Board following relegation.

During his tenure at Turf Moor, Parker guided the Clarets to a record-breaking season in the 2024/25 campaign, securing Burnley promotion from the Championship to the Premier League, with a 31-match unbeaten run, keeping a remarkable 30 clean sheets,” the statement read.

The club thanked Parker for his “professionalism, dedication and contribution,” adding that he leaves “with the respect and gratitude of everyone connected with Burnley Football Club.”

Mike Jackson, supported by the existing backroom staff, will take interim charge for the remaining four Premier League fixtures, starting with Friday’s match away to Leeds United.

The club said the process to appoint a new permanent Head Coach ahead of the 2026/27 season has begun.

In his own statement, Parker said: “It has been an immense privilege to lead this great club over the past two years. I have enjoyed every moment of our journey together, but feel that now is the right time for both parties to move in a different direction.”

He reflected on the 2024/25 promotion season and thanked the ownership, staff, players, and fans. “I wish you all and this great club nothing but the very best for the future,” he added.

Speaking after relegation was confirmed, Parker said: “This team have given us everything every single day. You can fault us in certain moments where we lacked a quality about us - and we haven't got enough points in this division. These players have come in with a humongous challenge and we've fallen a little bit short.”

He added: “We needed to overachieve this year, overachieve and overachieve, every single game, and we haven't managed to do that... I'm proud of them.

The 45-year-old has previously managed Fulham, Bournemouth, and Club Brugge.

He has won promotion from the Championship with three clubs: finishing as runners-up with Bournemouth and Burnley, and winning the play-offs with Fulham in 2020.

Reports have linked Steven Gerrard as a potential candidate to replace Parker at Turf Moor.

Gerrard has been out of management since leaving Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq in January.
