Tinubu Reappoints Ahmed Audi as NSCDC Chief for Second Term

President Bola Tinubu has reappointed Ahmed Abubakar Audi as Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), granting him a fresh five-year term.

Audi's reappointment takes effect from Friday, 27 February 2026, according to a statement issued on Saturday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

The NSCDC Chief was first appointed to the role in 2021 by former president Muhammadu Buhari.

His initial term formally ended last week, coinciding with activities marking the 2026 World Civil Defence Day at the NSCDC National Headquarters in Abuja.

He is expected to resume duties on Monday, 2 March, with what the Presidency described as a renewed mandate to strengthen the corps’ contribution to national security.

Onanuga said Tinubu had tasked Audi with repositioning the NSCDC to play a more prominent role, particularly as the Nigeria Police refocuses on its core responsibility of protecting citizens from banditry, kidnapping and terrorism.

Thereafter, he earned a Nigeria Certificate in Education from the College of Education, Akwanga, in 1992.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education from Ahmadu Bello University, awarded in 1995, and a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Calabar in 2001.

NSCDC's Chief completed a PhD in Public Administration at Nasarawa State University, Keffi in 2014 and obtained a master’s degree in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from Ahmadu Bello University in 2019.

Audi joined the NSCDC as a volunteer in November 1996 and was deployed as a divisional officer in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State after completing basic officer training the following year.

He rose through the ranks, serving in several state commands, before being promoted to Commandant of the Corps in 2007 and posted to the Office of the Commandant-General at the national headquarters in Abuja.
