Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has claimed that all political parties in Rivers State have collapsed into a single coalition to back President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Speaking on Wednesday at a stakeholders’ meeting in Asari-Toru Local Government Area, the former Rivers governor said the state’s political structure had shifted from partisan competition to what he described as a collective movement under the “renewed hope family.”
According to Wike, the rainbow coalition brings together all parties in the state with the sole aim of delivering Tinubu in the next presidential election.
“In Rivers, we don’t have any party now. What we have is the renewed hope family. It’s a rainbow coalition,” he told the gathering.
He added that political relevance in the state would now be determined by loyalty to the coalition, insisting that it would control future electoral outcomes, including the governorship and seats in the state assembly, after securing Tinubu’s return to office.
Wike argued that Rivers people were already benefiting from their support for Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election, promising improved outcomes in the year ahead.
“This year will be better than last year,” he said.
The FCT minister praised residents and community leaders in Asari-Toru for standing by Tinubu during the last election, describing their support as a calculated risk that was beginning to pay off.
He urged them to remain aligned with the coalition, assuring them of continued backing.
Wike’s remarks come amid an ongoing political tour of local government areas across Rivers State, during which he has made pointed, if indirect, criticisms of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration.
The minister has previously accused Fubara of breaching a political agreement both men allegedly entered into before President Tinubu lifted the emergency rule imposed on the state, a dispute that has deepened divisions within Rivers’ political landscape.
