Elon Musk has said he intends to file for full custody of his one-year-old son, citing issues arising from the child’s mother, Ashley St Clair, following her recent public apology over past transphobic remarks.
The billionaire technology entrepreneur and owner of X made the announcement on Monday in a post on the social media platform, responding to a comment from a concerned user.
“I will be filing for full custody today, given her statements implying she might transition a one-year-old boy,” Mr Musk wrote.
His comments followed St Clair’s acknowledgement of, and apology for, previously shared views on transgender issues.
Musk suggested that her remarks and subsequent statements had raised issues, although he did not provide further detail.
As of press time, St Clair had not publicly responded to Musk’s declaration that he would seek full custody.
St Clair, a right-wing influencer, first drew widespread attention in February 2025 when she announced that Musk was the father of her child, then a newborn.
“Five months ago, I welcomed a new baby into the world. Elon Musk is the father,” she wrote at the time.
She said she had initially chosen not to disclose the information in order to protect her child’s privacy and safety, adding that she felt compelled to speak out amid growing media interest.
Over the weekend, St Clair issued a public apology for her past comments on transgender issues, conceding that her earlier views may have caused harm.
“I feel immense guilt for my role,” she wrote on X, adding that she regretted any pain her words may have caused, including to members of her family.
She said she had been trying privately to educate herself and to support those she believed she had hurt.
St Clair also suggested she had been hesitant to speak publicly, fearing her apology would be dismissed or politicised, but said she nevertheless wanted to express remorse and ask how she could make amends.
Neither party has disclosed whether any legal proceedings have formally begun, and no court filings had been confirmed at the time of publication.
