The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has placed all commands across the federation on high alert in anticipation of a coordinated wave of protests scheduled to erupt nationwide today, Monday, 12 January 2026.
A confidential wireless communication from the Department of Operations (DOPS) at Force Headquarters in Abuja, dated Sunday, 11 January, revealed intelligence pointing to a planned mass mobilisation by a group identified as the Occupy Nigeria Movement.
The protest, dubbed the “Day of Presence,” is expected to unfold simultaneously at Government Houses in all 36 states and key locations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), including Unity Fountain and Eagle Square.
The police signal, marked “M/Immediate” and classified as “Security General,” was dispatched to Assistant Inspectors-General of Police in Zones 1 through 17, Mobile Police units, and all state commissioners of police.
It directed commanders to implement immediate preventive security measures to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
“Intel available to Nigpol DOPS revealed that a group called Occupy Nigeria Movement has perfected plans to stage a nationwide protest tagged Day of Presence on Monday 12/01/2026,” the message stated.
The directive stressed the need for strict professionalism and adherence to the rules of engagement, with a strong reminder to respect human rights throughout the operation.
“All operatives must conduct themselves professionally and strictly observe rules of engagement and human rights in accordance with the law,” it read.
In a further show of operational readiness, the Force ordered all officers deployed for the assignment to appear in camouflage attire until a formal stand-down order was issued.
The Occupy Nigeria Movement, which rose to prominence during the 2012 fuel subsidy protests, has not publicly confirmed the planned demonstrations.
However, the scale of the police mobilisation suggests authorities are taking the intelligence seriously.
As of this morning, reports said security presence has visibly increased around key government installations and public spaces in major cities, including Lagos, Port Harcourt, Kano, and Abuja.
