Nollywood actors and filmmakers on Friday gathered in Lagos to bid a final farewell to actress, producer and filmmaker Allwell Ademola, who was laid to rest amid sombre scenes from colleagues, friends and family.
Footage from the burial showed quiet moments at the graveside as Ademola’s coffin was lowered, with several mourners visibly emotional.
Actress Liz DaSilva was seen in tears, while fellow actors Rotimi Salami, Biola Adebayo, Saheed Balogun and Kunle Afod were among those present for the final rites.
The burial followed a candlelight procession held on Thursday night in her honour. The procession, led by Fathia Balogun, Femi Adebayo and Iyabo Ojo, took place hours after a service of songs at LTV8 in Lagos.
The service drew a wide cross-section of the Yoruba film industry, including Wumi Toriola, Afeez Owo, Faithia Williams, Mr Latin, Odunlade Adekola, Eniola Ajao, Yemi Solade, Bakare Zainab, Foluke Daramola and Jigan Babaoja.
During the service, Rotimi Salami, described by colleagues as one of Ademola’s closest friends, delivered an emotional tribute and appealed for forgiveness on her behalf.
“If there’s anyone Allwell has offended, directly or indirectly, please forgive her and keep praying for her. Even though she’s gone, all that she has done should remain with us,” he said.
The service of songs also featured a moment of reconciliation after Ademola’s brother publicly apologised to Iyabo Ojo over comments he made following his sister’s death. He said his earlier remarks were not directed at the actress and asked her not to take offence.
In a video shared in December 2025, Ademola’s brother had criticised what he described as insincere tributes from some Nollywood colleagues, accusing them of failing to support her work while she was alive.
The comments triggered public reactions, with Iyabo Ojo rejecting the claims and stating that she had supported the late actress professionally, financially and emotionally.
Allwell Ademola, who worked in both Yoruba and English-language films and was also active behind the camera as a producer and filmmaker, died on December 27, 2025, after suffering a heart attack at her residence in Lagos. She was 49.
