The Rivers State House of Assembly on Thursday initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
During plenary presided over by the Speaker, Martins Amaewhule, the Majority Leader, Major Jack, read the notice of allegations and gross misconduct against the governor, citing seven counts including unauthorised demolition of the Assembly complex, extra-budgetary spending and failure to comply with Supreme Court rulings on the House’s financial autonomy.
Twenty-six lawmakers signed the notice, which Amaewhule said would be served on the governor within seven days.
Separate allegations against the deputy governor were read by the Deputy Majority Leader, Linda Stewart.
