Tinubu Meets Otti Amid Renewed Push for Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday received Abia State Governor Alex Otti at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, in what is widely seen as part of an intensifying political and legal effort to resolve the prolonged detention of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

Governor Otti arrived at the President’s office wing dressed in a grey, knee-length traditional outfit, according to reports.

The engagement comes just days after his visit to the Sokoto Correctional Centre, where Kanu is serving his sentence.

During the Sokoto trip, Otti was accompanied by Kanu’s younger brother, Emmanuel Kanu; Abia State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna, SAN; and his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma. Access to the facility was facilitated by officials of the Sokoto State Government.

Speaking to journalists after meeting Kanu, the governor said issues surrounding the separatist leader’s detention remain a central priority for his administration.

Through his media aide, he stressed that the state is pursuing “a coordinated and lawful strategy” to secure Kanu’s release.

While Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is free to appeal his conviction, I’m happy to inform you that I have activated and will continue to work on the already agreed strategy until his freedom is secured,” Otti said.

Although details of Tuesday’s discussion with President Tinubu were not disclosed, the meeting is understood to be part of the governor’s broader push, political, diplomatic and legal, to bring the high-profile case to a resolution.
