The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has directed all commands across the country to step up security around courts and judicial officers, following fresh guidance issued by the Presidency.
RoundReports learnt that the order was contained in a wireless message dated 8 December 2025 from the Inspector-General of Police’s Secretariat in Abuja and circulated to Commissioners of Police in all 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, zonal commands and specialised units.
The communication, marked “very important” and “immediate,” instructed commands to prioritise the protection of judges and court facilities within their respective jurisdictions.
Commands that do not yet have a dedicated Judges Protection Unit (JPU) were told to set one up without delay.
Senior officers, including Deputy Inspectors General, zonal Assistant Inspectors General and heads of specialised formations, were reminded of their responsibility to ensure that all judicial personnel and infrastructure under their Area of Responsibility are fully secured at all times.
The police high command also directed all formations to confirm compliance promptly, stressing that no reminders would be issued.
The new measures come in the wake of broader presidential instructions on the withdrawal of police officers from general escort and guard assignments.
