Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has joined the Accord Party, days after announcing his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Adeleke confirmed his switch in a statement shared on his X handle on Tuesday evening, describing Accord as the “new platform for victory” ahead of the August 2026 governorship election.
“Today, we unveiled the Accord Party, our new platform for the good people of Osun State. From Osun West to Osun East to Osun Central, this is our party, our new platform for victory come August next year,” he wrote.
The governor said the decision to leave the PDP was driven by his determination to continue what he called the delivery of good governance and democratic dividends, adding that his administration’s welfare policies aligned closely with Accord’s ideology.
“We opted for the Accord Party because its mission of welfarism aligns with our passionate focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare.
“Since I joined, I have been fascinated by the philosophy of this great party. The primary essence of government is the welfare and well-being of the people,” he said.
He welcomed Accord’s national leadership to Osun and urged party members to maintain a united front as preparations begin for the 2026 polls.
“We are united in progress and good intentions for the good people of Osun State and Nigeria at large. Our task is to sustain a united front as we prepare for future elections,” he said.
Adeleke resigned from the PDP earlier in December, citing what he described as unresolved issues within the party’s national leadership.
His defection reshapes the national political map as the ruling APC now holds 28 governorship seats, PDP controls four, while the Labour Party, All Progressives Grand Alliance, New Nigerian Peoples Party and Accord each govern one state.
