The instruction, contained in a wireless message dated 8 December 2025 from the Department of Training and Development at Force Headquarters, Abuja, was circulated to Deputy Inspectors General, Assistant Inspectors General in the 17 zonal commands.

Others were Commissioners of Police in all 36 states and the FCT, and heads of specialised units including MOPOL, the Terrorism Directorate, Marine, Airwing, Medical, Border Patrol, Force CID and Force Intelligence.

According to the document, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun has directed all commands and formations to liaise with their personnel officers and forward the names of interested and eligible retired officers for consideration.

The call is limited to officers who left the service between 2020 and 2025, specifically from the ranks of Inspector to Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP).

They are also expected to demonstrate specialist competence in at least one area, such as drill, musketry, unarmed combat, professional studies, legal studies or liberal studies.

The retirees, once screened, may be deployed as ad-hoc instructors to support the training of new police constables in colleges and training schools nationwide.

Commands have been instructed to submit detailed returns, including serial number, name, highest academic qualification, date of retirement, last posting, training expertise and preferred training institution.

The communication, issued from Force Headquarters with the notation “treat as very important” and marked “immediate,” directs that all submissions be sent to the designated email address no later than 18 December 2025.
