Army Foils Bandits Attack, Neutralises 11 in Sokoto

The Nigerian Army’s 8 Division has neutralised 11 bandits and recovered a substantial cache of weapons during a targeted operation in Sokoto State.

According to a statement by 8 Division, the Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West, operating under the codename ‘Operation Fansan Yamma', carried out the swift and coordinated strike near Kurawa Village in Sabon Birni Local Government Area (LGA).

The ambush successfully disrupted a planned attack on Tara Village, a strategic route frequently exploited by bandit and terrorist groups.

The statement said that the troops acted on credible intelligence, engaging the bandits in an intense firefight.

Consequently, eight AK-47 rifles, five extra magazines, and 26 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered, while several other attackers reportedly fled, sustaining gunshot wounds.

The statement states: “The operation prevented a potential terrorist attack and dealt a significant blow to the bandit network operating in the Sabon Birni corridor.”

It added that the troops remain committed to safeguarding the lives and property of citizens across Sokoto State.

It said that the success of the mission underscores the Nigerian Army’s determination to combat banditry and terrorism in the region, providing reassurance to local communities in areas long plagued by insecurity.
