President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his scheduled visits to South Africa and Angola, citing urgent domestic security alerts following the abduction of schoolgirls in Kebbi State and a deadly attack on worshippers in Kwara.
The President was due to depart Abuja today for Johannesburg to attend the 20th G20 Summit of world leaders, before heading to Luanda for the 7th AU-EU Summit, however, the recent spate of violence has prompted a change in plans.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu said he would remain in Nigeria to receive further briefings on the kidnapping of 25 schoolgirls in Kebbi and the bandit attack on Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku, Kwara State.
Responding to a request from the Kwara State Governor, the President has ordered the deployment of additional security personnel to Eruku and the wider Ekiti Local Government Area (LGA).
He also directed the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to pursue the perpetrators of the church attack.
Vice President Kashim Shettima has visited Kebbi on the President’s behalf to express solidarity with affected families.
Tinubu is now awaiting detailed reports from Shettima, the police, and the Department of State Services (DSS).
Reaffirming his commitment to the safety of all Nigerians, President Tinubu instructed security agencies to "do everything possible" to rescue the abducted schoolgirls and ensure their safe return.
