Suspected Boko Haram Abduct 12 Women Returning From Farms

Twelve women have been abducted by suspected Boko Haram fighters in Mussa district, Askira-Uba Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State.

Police authorities confirmed on Sunday that the victims were seized on Saturday evening while returning from their farms, saying preliminary investigations had begun.

Nahum Daso, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state disclosed  that the Command was working to establish full details of the attack.

There was an abduction yesterday, the abduction of 12 females when they were coming back from their farms in Askira-Uba, by suspected Boko Haram. The details are still sketchy, but efforts are underway,” he said.

The kidnapping adds to a series of violent incidents reported across the region in recent days.

On Monday, gunmen stormed the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, kidnapping 25 schoolgirls and killing the vice principal.

In Niger State last Tuesday, more than 300 pupils from St Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri were taken by bandits.

However, the Catholic Diocese later confirmed that 50 of the children had escaped.

The same day in Kwara State, armed men attacked the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke-Isegun, in Eruku, killing three worshippers and abducting 38 others.

Fortunately, the state government has since announced that all the abducted worshippers had regained freedom.

Amid the spate of attacks, President Bola Tinubu on Sunday reassured his administration’s commitment to restoring security nationwide.

Writing on his official X account, he vowed not to relent until all Nigerians were safe.

Let me be clear: I will not relent. Every Nigerian, in every state, has the right to safety, and under my watch, we will secure this nation and protect our people,” the President said.

Tinubu praised the security agencies for recent rescue efforts, adding that he cancelled his planned trip to the G20 summit in South Africa to coordinate operations at home.

Thanks to the efforts of our security forces over the last few days, all 38 worshippers abducted in Eruku, Kwara State, have been rescued. I am equally happy that 51 out of the missing students of the Catholic School in Niger State have been recovered,” he said.

Meanwhile, security forces are yet to announce any breakthroughs regarding the 12 women abducted in Borno.
